SPECIAL RAFFLE ANNOUNCEMENT

Help the WPRRHS Preserve the Original 1903 Western Pacific Railway Articles of Incorporation

Western Pacific Railway 1903 Articoes of Incorporation books

On loan to the FRRS/WPRRHS are two books of vital importance to the history of the WP, the original 1903 Articles of Incorporation and a huge book of invoices and receipts from the original construction era of the railroad. These paper artifacts are loaded with interesting and historically significant information on the creation and construction of America's "Last Transcontinental Railroad". The books and their contents are in a rapidly declining condition and we don't know how long we will have access to them so we are urgently recruiting donations to fund the digital preservation (scanning) of all the contents in these books before they reach a point of no return.

Our goal is to raise $10,000, which will cover all the scanning and archiving of the approximately 4,500 digital files these two books are expected to provide and this material will become the cornerstone of the collection in the archives of the Arthur Walter Keddie Railroad Library.

Athearn Trains has generously donated two significant items for this special raffle, a Genesis A-B-B F3 HO locomotive set and a new Genesis HO WP FP7, which will not even be in stores for several months. Also, acclaimed railroad artist Marc Desobeau has donated a signed and numbered artist proof print of his popular painting of the CZ titled, Feather & Steel. Finally, Trains & Travel International has donated two dome-class roundtrip tickets for the Railroad Days - Feather River Express from Emeryville to Portola and return August 20-22, 2010.

Help us kick off the fundraising for this important project by buying tickets for this special raffle at $5.00 each or 5 tickets for $20.00. You MUST be present at the convention to participate in this raffle.

Registration
Pre-registration is now closed. Walk-ins are welcomed to purchase a general admission ticket at the door for $40.00 for both Friday and Saturday. Sorry, the banquet is not available to those who did not pre-register.

Lodging
We have a small block of rooms secured at a special convention rate at the Clarion Hotel & Suites of $69 single or $79 double bed room per night (plus tax).

Convention attendees must CALL the local hotel number and mention the "Western Pacific" to get this group rate. Online registration using the group code is not available this year. To book by phone, please call the Clarion reservation number at 209-931-3131.

This special room rate is available on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to room availability and does not include applicable taxes.

Please make plans now to join us on this milestone 14th annual convention on April 16th and 17th for a fun filled weekend in WP country!
